RAMS 2005 released

The RAMS Station Audience Report, which gathered information on the radio listening habits of South Africans over a seven day period for 2005, has been released.

Fieldwork for the sixth release wave of 2005 was conducted in two parts: from mid-August to end-September 2005 and again from October to end-November 2005.

The 2005-2008 SAARF RAMS® contract was awarded jointly to Shonigani (a joint venture between Nielsen Media Research and Plus 94 Harris) and African Response. The fieldwork was conducted by interviewers from both companies.

A 20% back-check was conducted on all interviewers.

The report establishes the stations listened to during a seven-day period by adults in SA, the times listened to each station, for each day of the week, the stations listened to in the past four weeks and favourite radio stations.

A total of 18 687 diaries were collected and broken down by demographics as follows:

  • Age
  • Community size
  • Gender
  • Home language
  • Household income
  • Household purchaser
  • Languages understood
  • Languages spoken (Other)
  • Level of Education
  • Living Standards Measure
  • Metropolitan area
  • Population group
  • Province
  • Women with children
  • Work status

    Note: There are some community radio stations with less than 100 diary keepers in their footprint areas. Users must keep these small sample sizes in mind when examining the data.
