Another award for Radio Pulpit
Members include Christian radio stations, record companies, publishing companies and content providers. At its annual conference it awarded three trophies: The Trinity Award for Broadcasting Excellence; Kenneth Copeland Award for Community Involvement; and the Focus on the Family Award for family-focused radio content.
Most community-focused
The Kenneth Copeland Award for Community Involvement was awarded to Radio Pulpit for being the ACB Member which had been the most community-focused through 2008, not only in programme content but also through outreach projects and community upliftment.
A spokesperson for Radio Pulpit said, “Radio Pulpit is a companion to all who are searching for meaning in their lives and is decidedly a community radio station; not only providing the needs of the Christian community, but also mobilising Christians to be actively involved in the community around them. This award once again confirms that what we strive towards, impacting lives every day.”
Radio Pulpit is, through its Community Building Initiative, involved in a number of grass-roots projects, including caring for those infected and affected with HIV and AIDS, as well as skills development and economical empowerment projects. Its Community Building Initiative is undertaken in partnership with the business sector.
Varied spectrum
Radio Pulpit also makes use of a varied spectrum of freelance presenters from the community to ensure that the needs of the community, and language groups it serves, are well represented and catered for on air and in its programme content. It also makes use of regular listener-feedback programmes, focus groups and a Theological Advisory Committee to ensure community-driven content and focus.
As well, Radio Pulpit reaches out to the wider community in Africa through its partnership with the United Christian Broadcasters International (UCBI), UCB Africa, and has in the process assisted no less that six new and fledgling Christian and community radio stations with equipment, training and funds.
Last year the station received the Trinity Award for Broadcasting Excellence, as well as the PanSALB trophy for nation building and multilinguism in electronic media.
