Alex Jay to replace Bob Mabena at Highveld
Mabena has been hosting the 4 to 7pm weekday afternoon slot for over two years. He first joined 94.7 in 1997 as presenter of the mid-morning slot, as well as programme manager. He subsequently joined Kaya FM. In January 2001, Mabena re-joined 94.7 as the afternoon anchor. In a statement Mabena said: "I am sad to leave this great radio station. However, my move is for personal growth. All I can say at this stage is that I am going to remain in the radio industry and I will be in a position to divulge more in about two weeks' time. I will miss all my colleagues and friends at 94.7. I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the station. It has been exciting and fulfilling. I have learnt a lot."
94.7 station manager, Ravi Naidoo, said: "We are sad to see Mabena leave. But, we fully understand that his move is essential for the development of his personal business interests. We wish him well. Mabena has been an important asset as the afternoon drive presenter."
Naidoo announced that Alex Jay would be replacing Mabena. Said Jay: "I am happy to be coming home and am thrilled to join Joburg's No.1 Hit Music Station. My family and I will be re-locating from Cape Town to Johannesburg and I am looking forward to hosting the afternoon drive on 94.7. I plan on extending the comedy feature on the show and I will make sure that listeners get home in a really good mood."
Jay has been a freelance presenter for 94.7 since July this year, filling in on various daytime shows. Naidoo added: "We are excited to add Jay to our list of talented presenters. He is well-liked by listeners of music radio and will bring a wealth of experience to 94.7."
