Alex Jay joins Highveld Stereo

Gauteng based radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo has announced that legendary DJ Alex Jay has been contracted to the station on a freelance basis.

Jay will make his debut on the station while Jeremy Mansfield and the Rude Awakening team is on leave for one week from the 14th to the 18th of July.

With his passion for radio unabated, Jay had little to consider when talks with Primedia Broadcasting began. "I am thrilled to be associated with such a great team of truly professional presenters," says Jay, "it is a good feeling to be back on air after a short break". He adds, "born and bred in Joburg, the energy and dynamics of the city still excite me".

Says Ravi Naidoo, station manager of 94.7 Highveld Stereo "Alex Jay has a huge following, is well recognised and is respected in the industry. I'm sure he will prove to be a great asset to 94.7 and will fit well into the format. At this point, he is still a freelancer and nothing is permanent. He will be filling in for various presenters, when necessary, while they are on leave".

During his illustrious career, Jay joined 702 as a late-night DJ in 1983 and moved to the afternoon drive show a year later. He joined the national music station, Radio 5 in 1986, hosting the breakfast show for nearly 8 years. Alex left the SABC in October 2002.
