More people visit Joburg Antiques Fair
Thanks to the Gautrain, more people are discovering Johannesburg's Antiques & Collectables Fair at Nelson Mandela Square, an event comparable to antique fairs such as Portobello Rd in London and fairs in Paris and Buenos Aires. Run on the first Sunday of every month, the fair hosts over 60 stalls.
The monthly antiques fair has become an attraction, not only with local collectors but with the many tourists who pass through Johannesburg. With the Gautrain just a block away, travelling from Pretoria or Rosebank is an easy ride.
The antiques industry has shown remarkable resilience with investors snapping up valuable antiques, art, stamps, coins and collectables. The dealers who make up the antiques community are passionate about their collections and many are specialists in their fields.
