Local musical to be screened at The Ridge

Locally produced musical, "Platteland" will be showing on the big screen at the end of November 2011. The film tells the story of Riana van Niekerk, played by Lianie May, who is desperately fighting to save her family's farm from Mike Ferreira, played by Steve Hofmeyr, who has his own agenda and is determined to drive Riana from the land and seize her farm.

When a drifter, Dirk Pretorius, played by Bok van Blerk, arrives in town, new alliances are formed and love blossoms in the most unlikely quarters.

Produced by Philo Pieterse, who is well known for hits such as Lipstiek Dipstiek and Kringe in 'n Bos and written by multiple award-winner Deon Opperman and Sean Else - who also directed the film - Platteland boasts a stellar cast of well-know local singers.

A variety of local actors

They include Vaughan Gardiner (Gooi Jou Arms om My), Karlien van Jaarsveld (As Die Gordyn Val) and actors Hannah Grobler (Bakgat, Getroud Met Rugby) André Odendaal (Getroud Met Rugby), David Clatworthy (7de Laan), Wynand van Vollenstee (Karate Kallie), Ivan Zimmermann (Egoli, Dit Wat Stom Is), Paul Luckhoff (Egoli, Hopeville), Izak Davel (Egoli, Getroud met Rugby - Die Onvertelde Storie), Cobus Visser (Egoli, Villa Rosa), Marcel Schoeman (Torings), Annette Engelbrecht (Orkney Snork Nie), Viljé Maritz (Binnelanders)and Dirk Stoltz (Song vir Katryn, Binnelanders)

Fans can meet cast member and local singing sensation, Bok van Blerk when he visits The Ridge Casino in Witbank, Mpumalanga on 26 November 2011 from 11.30am to 12.30pm. He will also be available for autograph signings in the Foodcourt area next to The Ridge Cinemas.

The first screening of "Platteland" will be held at The Ridge Cinemas on 12 November. "Platteland" is released by Indigenous Film Distribution and was filmed in Vrede and Verkykerskop in the Free State.
