Yellow Brick Road filled with guests

Having attended Thursday, 24 February's first night's performance of the Pop Up Cinema in South Africa at Arts on Main, I urge that film buffs follow on Facebook to catch its next movie event, which is in Cape Town. The effort made by TCM to recreate the wonderful land of Oz was exceptional; great décor and characters dressed to perfection - a wonderful cowardly lion, flying monkeys darting here and there, and my personal favourite, the witch, who attempted to lure guests into alleys and dead ends.

What added to the event was that many guests came dressed for the part - from scarecrows, witches, a Dorothy or two, to another lion. The event started with an opportunity to mingle in the outdoor courtyard of the venue and purchase good food and drink, and the essential for movies - fresh popcorn.

Having only seen the Wizard of Oz on the small screen, it is definitely better viewed from comfortable couches or bean bags in full screen with surround sound. The magic is multiplied by an audience of fans, many of whom knew the script and sung along.

I can't wait for the next event and, having now found Arts on Main, will be back to view its Sunday market.
