Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, who recorded the iconic hit "I Love Rock 'n Roll" more than 30 years ago, are among the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2012.

Along with her group are nominees Heart and Rufus with Chaka Khan. They are being considered for a prestigious place in the Hall of Fame along with Gun 'n Roses, hip-hop pioneers Eric B & Rakim, The Cure, The Small Faces/The Faces with Rod Stewart and bluesman Freddie King and The Spinners.

Previous nominees who have again been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include The Beastie Boys, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Donna Summer.

To qualify for the Hall of Fame an act must have released its first single or album at least 25 years ago. The final inductees will be chosen by 500 voters in Cleveland, Ohio in April next year.
