Top bands live at Club 91
Club 91, in Claremont, Cape Town, will be hosting live music nights from 29 July to 27 August, 2010. Some of South Africa's top bands will appear including The Dirty Skirts, Ashtray Electric and The Plastics, aKing, and Jack Parow and JR.
Thursday, 29 July: The Dirty Skirts
The Dirty Skirts are an alt-indie-rock band based in Cape Town, comprising Jess de Tolly on lead vocals and guitar, David Moffatt on guitar, Passion Paliaga on bass and Markie de Menezes on drums. The band has toured to the US, the UK and the UAE. They have also been a featured act at festivals such as Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies, Splashy Fen and the Kirstenbosch Gardens Summer Concerts.
Thursday, 5 August: Ashtray Electric and The Plastics
Ashtray Electric's first single The Swing reached the number one position on Tuks FM`s SA Top 10. The band released their first full-length album "Bonjour" in April 2009. The first single on "Bonjour", Seasons, has led the way to commercial airplay for Ashtray Electric by being playlisted on Highveld Stereo and East Coast Radio.
The Plastics pay homage to retro-rock and classic pop imagery. The Plastics are a live performance-orientated band and were finalists in The Road to V-Fest competition for the best unsigned band in SA.
Thursday, 12 August: aKing
aKING is a melodic pop-rock band. The band was formed when Hunter Kennedy and Jaco Venter from Fokofpolisiekar, teamed up with friends Laudo Liebenberg and Hennie van Halen, joining their combined creative forces in making music that expresses their shared experiences and influences. "Against all Odds" is their latest album from which the eponymous single is currently playlisted on 5fm, Highveld Stereo, KFM, OFM, East Coast Radio, Jacarandafm, Red Cap Radio and campus radio stations nationwide.
Friday, 27 August: Jack Parow and JR
Originating from Bellville, Jack Parow, romantic Afrikaans superstar rapper exploded in the South African music scene in 2010 with hits Dans, Dans, Dans and Cooler Than Ekke playlisted on major radio stations. He will be joined on the night by JR famous for his hit song Make the Circle Bigger.
