If you imagine the English Premier League, but replace the football clubs with rock bands, you have the formula for the Rock Premier League, which kicks off on Tuesday, 20 October 2009. The Rock Premier League is a confederation of 16 bands are pitted in a dual, one on one and bands need to outperform each other on the stage and on the marketing arena. The 16 bands are split into groups of four.
Each band faces each other band in their group in a round robin format.
Yellow cards
Earning points if they win, get over 100 SMSs and get yellow cards and red cards for mistakes and misbehaviour. The two bands with the highest points from each group move on to the knock-out rounds: the quarter-finals, the semis and, ultimately, the final.
Performance, crowd reaction and SMS votes
To win a match, three things are taken into consideration: performance, crowd reaction and SMS votes. A match night, every Tuesday at Mercury (downstairs) will consist of all four bands in a group performing. Bands gain revenue from SMSs they have collected from their fans.
The RPL is a league that encourages brands to develop their brands and perfect their marketing strategies. This is not a battle, it is a league, a union - bands working together measuring themselves against each other and improving the rock industry.
