Ting's and Times hosts Levi's® Vintage Sunday's
Levi's® Vintage Sunday's moves to Tings ‘n Times in Pretoria for September, continuing a legacy of brilliant music, powerful performances and Sunday night partying. As always the acts share a common passion for creating truly original South African sounds, but that's where the similarities stop. Their diverse, individualistic natures are testimony to the brilliant depth in local music, a depth that Levi's® Vintage Sunday's is intent on bringing to as many fans as possible and all this for absolutely free.
Tumi
Three acts get it all going on the 6th. First up it's Bongeziwe whose music has a heavy folk soul. His compositions have a rhythmically grassroots vibe while fusing elements from styles like Mbaqanga, soul, hip-hop and Dub. Kabomo follows, with fans from as far as Ibiza to Nairobi to hometown Daveyton who can testify to his magnetic talent. Next we see Tumi and the Volume. This bands unique sound is an amalgamation of their various influences. Their albums have strings of hip hop, funk, afro-jazz and metal, each intensified by Tumi's witty verbalism.
On the 13th of September Soft Serve step up to perform. For something completely different, they will perform eclectic compositions and collaborations. Soft Serve combines music, sound and visuals in a slightly extreme performance that anyone who's mildly eccentric will love. Later in the evening, the Albert Frost Band, a group of much-loved musos who share common blues roots and an unmatched ability to connect with an audience.
On the 20th it's the turn of Shadow Club and Tidal Waves. Shadow Club, who's songs are short, sharp and blues-driven, will keep you mesmerised. They're followed by the highly gifted Tidal Waves with their unique take on the reggae sound, infusing their love of ska with elements of rock and mbaqanga, and raising temperatures with their real roots rhythms.
Andy Lund takes to the stage with music that has a slight melancholic edge, but moves with a sense of hope and a feeling of dirty romanticism. The music is heartfelt and mesmerizing. Laurie Levine follows with a crossover style rooted in rock, folk, blues and jazz, this unique singer will delight the crowd with her unique, emotive style and thought-provoking lyrics. Ending the night and Levi's® Vintage Sunday's in Pretoria is Jack Hammer who has always stayed true to its original brand of Rock ‘n Roll. It's a fusion of blues-rooted guitar playing and smouldering rock energy, resulting in a performance that is intensely seductive.
Levi's® Vintage Sunday's is all about sharing musical excellence and nurturing a culture of appreciation. If you love your music local, then it doesn't get better than this - diversity, quality and an unbeatable vibe. Bring on the Sunday's.
