Chris de Burgh tours SA

Few artists can lay claim to international success spanning three decades, but beginning with his very first release, Chris de Burgh has achieved precisely that. From 1975 with the release of his debut album ‘Far Beyond These Castle Walls' he has achieved the absolute pinnacle every artist dreams off, consistently garnering fans from all walks of life, right across the globe.

His second album ‘Spanish Train and Other Stories' was Chris' first major hit in SA and the first single ‘Just Another Poor Boy' from this album was No. 1 for many weeks. By 1981 with the release of ‘Man On The Line' Chris was a well established global star and the single from this album ‘High On Emotion' became a No. 1 record right across the globe. 1986 saw the release of ‘Into The Light', Chris' most successful record to that date and sold in excess of 10million copies world wide, it also featured the single ‘The Lady In Red' which was no. 1 in 50 countries and is still to date one of the most played records on the planet.

By 1990 Chris's popularity was such that he was the only international artist to personally receive an invitation by the then Chancellor Kohl to perform at the historic public celebrations marking the reunification of East and West Germany. Chris continually seeks new challenges for himself as a musician and in 1995 his whole album ‘Beautiful Dreams' realised a life long ambition to have his music recorded in a classical style with a full thirty-two piece orchestra.

His latest contribution ‘Footsteps' follows the path of its predecessors by being a work of lyrical art. As quoted in the albums sleeve “Inside this record you will find some of the songs that I have always loved to sing and that inspired me to become the performer and the songwriter I am today. Recorded in the studio with orchestra, band or just a guitar they represent the footsteps that I took on a musical journey that started as a dream and has gone further than I could ever of imagined.” With a career encompassing seventeen studio albums, plaudits and landmarks too numerous to mention - LP sales in excess of 45 million…and counting he is coming to SA to perform to the masses that want nothing but to walk in Chris de Burgh's Footsteps.
