Entries open for Pick'Pay /Fine Music Radio 101.3 Music Awards 2009
Now in its fifth year the awards have become a highlight on the musical calendar with fierce competition from musicians all over the country. Marketing director of Pick ‘n Pay says that he is always astonished and delighted at the wealth of musical talent we have in this country and is looking forward to hearing this year's entries.
Pick ‘n Pay is highly supportive of the arts and in particular the development of young musicians.
This year the entries close on 30 June 2009 and the grand finals will be held on 28 July 2009 when three finalists from each category will compete at a free public concert at the Baxter Concert Hall. In addition patrons at this concert will be able to hear past winner Kyle Shepherd perform whilst judging is completed. A wonderful opportunity to take time out to listen to the hottest young talent in the country.
The bursaries of R20,000 to the winners in each category allow talented young musicians to use this money to gain broader knowledge and experience. Runners up also receive an award.
The awards have recognised local talent such as Kyle Shepherd, Justin Kravitz, Avigail Bushakovitz, Esthea Kruger and Christopher Engel who are all now making their mark on the music scenes.
The judging panel consists of highly regarded members of the music community who listen and critique these young contenders. The six finalists to compete in the 2009 competition will be announced on FMR 101.3 the week prior to the gala performance.
Entry forms are available from FMR 101.3 or online at www.fmr.co.za and through FMR's audio streaming entries can be received from anywhere in the country.
