Celebrating local musical talent, the V&A Waterfront's annual Summer Sessions, in partnership with Smart, commence on 19 November 2016. All acts will be hosted at the V&A Waterfront's Amphitheatre stage.

Daniel Baron
Daniel Baron hits the Amphitheatre stage on Saturday, 19 November 2016 from 6.30pm. Visitors can look forward to a captivating crossover performance featuring pop, rock, ballad and dance genres from this SAMA-winning singer and songwriter. Baron has 10 radio hits to his name and a number one single from his debut album, It’s Time.

On Friday, 2 December from 6.30pm, up-and-coming local artist Chris Werge kicks off the December Summer Series by Smart concerts. A former contestant on The Voice South Africa, the 25-year-old indie folk artist has enjoyed popular success in recent years, and has opened for the likes of internationally renowned artist James Blunt. At 7.15pm, Richard Stirton, a former winner of The Voice South Africa, will remind the audience why he was the 2016 winner.

Reconciliation Day gets a little rock-n-roll treatment at the V&A Waterfront on Friday, 16 December, with a live performance from acclaimed South African group The Rudimentals, who will perform at the Amphitheatre from 7pm. This popular cross-genre group have developed a style of their own utilising aspects of various music types – reggae, ska, rock, gumma, dancehall, jazz and afro-pop. They write and produce their own music and everything they play is original

Popular afro-jazz band Mpho & Uvimba are set to start the 2017 V&A Waterfront’s Summer Sessions by Smart with a beat. They will jazz it up at the Amphitheatre from 7pm on Sunday, 1 January with a seven-piece band. They have previously performed with the likes of Jonathan Butler, Rebecca Malope and many more well-established South African artists.

Monark will rock January at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre on Friday, 6 January between 7pm and 8pm. Get up close and personal with this rocking-pop four-piece band. Without a doubt one of the most exciting bands to break out from 2013, Monark are changing the face of pop music in South Africa. Performing as a four-piece band, Monark deliver something completely fresh and unique, and are setting trends sonically and stirring up tastes In the South African music landscape.

Bringing the Summer Sessions with Smart to a close is popular alternative pop singer, songwriter and producer Jimmy Nevis. He takes to the stage on Friday, 3 February 2017 between 7pm and 8pm. This talented performer has enjoyed commercial success, and won multiple awards including a SAMA.
