The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) recently confirmed that the City of Tshwane has withdrawn its sponsorship, to host the 2009 Metro FM Awards.
Due to this action on the part of Tshwane, Metro FM station management has announced that it has no option but to postpone the awards, which were scheduled to happen in November this year, to 2010. The station announcement says that Metro FM is currently in negotiation with other potential partners to stage the event early next year and once that has been finalised, the SABC will communicate accordingly.
According to the announcement, Metro FM “remains committed to acknowledging the best of South African music”.
