Ballet meets The Beatles at the Baxter
Romeo's Kiss will offer audiences an exhilarating and psychological unfolding of a dramatic dance work that explores modern, yet timeless, issues. Bovim is well known for his ability to entertain audiences from all walks of life through the medium of ballet and dance. The audience can expect to see the dancers translate Bovim's abstract vision in an energetic, fast-paced yet poignant production.
Using popular versions of some of the vast Beatles repertoire, this age-old story will be given a fresh and contemporary feel. The audience can expect to hear songs like: All You Need Is Love, I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Hey Jude, among others, with the accomplished dancers bringing the timeless Beatles classics to life through their balletic technique while being challenged by Bovim's contemporary/modern style of choreography.
Rocking group divertissements
Bovim said: "This is MTV culture meets So You Think You Can Dance, with beautifully designed love duets and rocking group divertissements."
The male cast includes: Ignatius van Heerden, Devon Marshbank, Casey Swales, Owen Manamela, Marc Goldberg, Grant Swift, Michael Jakavula, Llewellyn Mnguni, Mduduzi Nyembe and is ably accompanied by the female cast including: Kirsten Isenberg; Simone Muller; Faye Dubinski, Kristin Wilson, Kerryn Howard, Tanya Futter, Jennifer Middleton, Nicola Marais.
Pure nostalgia
Audiences will be taken on a journey of pure nostalgia enjoying their favourite Beatles melodies whilst delighting in the dexterity of the dancers, elegantly dressed by Craig Port (male dancers) and KLûK & CGDT (female dancers).
