uNik - One in a million....?

Are you still suffering from post election blues? Are you less than two thirds convinced by the resulting parliament? Are you in need of social upliftment...? If so, for a lighter outlook on current politics and all other issues prevalent to South Africans today, grab some friends, and head down to “On Broadway” and enjoy an uNik evening's entertainment with Nik Rabinowitz.
uNik - One in a million....?

I thoroughly enjoyed the night out. Every table was full, with diners enjoying a relaxed, chatty, tasty meal, followed by a show to remember.

Nik clearly enjoys his time on stage. The material is excellent and up to date, with cleverly written sequences that slot together seamlessly. Plus the brilliant play on words, cultures and languages, with many subtleties which had me chuckling on my drive home. This combined with his stage presence and incredible energy makes this a show not to be missed. It rockets along like a commet, from start to finish, with only the occasional pause, for a costume change, and for the audience to catch its breath.

There is a mix between “conventional” stand up comedy, in which Nik throws an unusual and sometimes bizarre spotlight on the goings on in the world around us, from Inaugurations and praise singers, to the Dilemma with D. Lama, to a proposed Low cost housing project in Constantia. He also uses the show to introduce and develop characters like Beryl Rosenberg (the Sultana of Sea Point), South Africa's own Naked Chef (refining braaing to haute cuisine), and the fabulous Portia, who must be the first fully fledged African Koogirl. The props are fairly minimal, with great use of the telephone, to bring other events and characters onto the stage.

I am sure this show will go a long way in helping Nik to defend his title of “Stand-Up of the Year”, at this year's SA Comedy Awards.

uNik runs till the 6th June at On Broadway in Cape Town with all shows starting at 8:30pm. Tickets cost R85 per person. For tickets and dinner bookings please visit www.onbroadway.co.za, or call 021 424 1194/5.
