Funny man David Kau to headline Live at Parker's
Born in Kroonstad, Kau began his career with his degree in Speech and Drama at the University of Cape Town. After writing and performing "The Rainbow Nation Tour", his first one-man show in 1998, Kau never looked back. He continued his politically aware comedy with his next play, "Introducing the Peoples Comic", in 2000.
In 2001, Kau appeared in sketches on The Phat Joe Show. Having already carved out a niche in the market as the best black comedian in the country, Kau left Cape Town for Johannesburg to amplify his career, where he created his first television series, the "Pure Monate Show (PMS)" which aired for the first time in 2004.
Kau's greatest pride is his Blacks Only comedy show - started as a one-night-only affair in 2005 - which is still going strong a decade later! A major career highlight for Kau came in 2008 when he became the face and head judge of the "So You Think You're Funny?" reality show. In 2012, Kau made his first connection with Comedy Central, as one of the shining lights of the Roasting panel at "The "Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr".
Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central, Africa, commented, "We are delighted to have a comedy pioneer like David Kau gracing the stage at Parker's in July. A legend in his own right, David has been instrumental in cultivating comedy in South Africa and has inspired hundreds of comedians to turn their comedic baby steps into giant comedy strides."
Like Kau, Comedy Central is passionate about growing the local comedy scene and endeavours to achieve this through a range of platforms such as the Comedy Central Open Mic Competition which features at every monthly Parker's event. The competition sees three aspiring comedians selected to perform in front of the live Parker's audience, and potentially earn the chance to make it to the finals on 1 October at Parker's Silverstar Casino.
