Alliance Francaise hosts inaugural fashion show
The Alliance Francaise of Port Elizabeth will be hosting its first ever Fashion Design Showcase, starting at 11am on Saturday, 10 April 2010 and running until 29 April. The showcase features local designers, each of whom brings creative and unique inspired designs to his/her plate.
“Silver Spoon Clothing, Natalie Creed, Indalo Ethnic Clothing, Irity Leather Works, and Swallow Me Whole are all local brands that try to use local materials as often as they can and they also are good contributors to society by employing locals as staff,” said Alliance Francaise cultural co-ordinator Aurelie Biewesch.
“Silver Spoon Clothing by Stephanie Beyers, a former fashion design student at NMMU, launched her brand two years ago and she creates functional pieces with character that have a trendy casual touch to them. Creed's line specialises in knitwear using mohair and other various natural fibers and is geared towards environment-friendly production, which strives to use mostly natural or recycled products,” said Biewesch.
“Swallow Me Whole by Tasha Langley creates contemporary African trinkets made of silver. Indalo Ethnic Clothing by Sivuyile and Sipho Ntlangu re-uses and revamps clothing. They will be collaborating with Irity Leather Works by Luyanda Npolongwana who creates shoes and bags out of leather.”
