Incredible gees

The day is not the opening football match, the people in question aren't football fans, but good grief, what a day to remember. In all honesty, the only reason we went was to see Gold Fish, but they were only playing after the Ghana vs Serbia match. Now, as a non-football fan - and definitely not a Ghana or a Serbia supporter - I wasn't very impressed. But to my surprise I found myself getting caught up in the gees.

Flags waving, vuvuzelas vuving and Ghana supporters going insane! The outfits were indescribable and, without realising it, I began to scream for my new team - Ghana. You haven't lived until you've seen 100 or so people run around a fan park after their team has scored the winning goal in the final minutes. To have crazed Ghanaians rush at you, swoop you up in their excitement and start dancing with you is an experience only Cape Town can provide.

The Fan Park is suitable for families, for teenagers, for the supporter, the non-supporter, the crazy and the sane. There is not only football, but stalls lining the streets, entertainment for all and, of course, a vuvuzela around every corner. Unfortunately, you may not take any food into the Fan Park, but the prices aren't too bad. There are also performances: for example we saw Gold Fish and the most amazing drummer boys. There is a local line-up for the entire week and it is bound to be amazing.

So, my conclusion? I will never underestimate Ghanaians and their enthusiasm, I will think twice before being unimpressed again and I will definitely be there to watch the next South African game - because that will be nothing less than mind blowing!
