Velvet Sky flights still delayed on Friday

Troubled airline Velvet Sky is still struggling to get its planes into the air and News24 says that flights from Johannesburg to Cape Town and Durban were delayed for three hours on Friday morning.
Velvet Sky flights still delayed on Friday

This follows the cancellation of all Velvet Sky flights on Thursday after an unexplained "business dispute" between the airline and its "service providers".

Meanwhile Business Report quotes Velvet Sky's chief operations officer Gary Webb as saying that he didn't have "first hand information" on the alleged liquidation application brought against it by BP over the issue of non-payment for aviation fuel.

The Mercury says that Velvet Sky's troubles began in January where BP suspended fuel supplies to the airline. It quotes Webb as saying the delays were "mainly as a result of commercial issues between the airline and its service provider" - thought to be SAA Technical.

Passengers whose flights were cancelled on Thursday were told that they could lodge a claim with the airline for a refund of the ticket price.
