What's new at Sun City
A much loved and popular holiday destination for local and international families since the late 70s, Sun City has been synonymous with fun-filled family holidays, glitzy gambling, and an OTT African kitsch style that tourists just can't seem to get enough of. So it comes as no big surprise really that after 36 years of successful accommodating and entertaining, Sun City was due an upgrade. A substantial one.
In fact serious bucks, R1bn to be exact, has been funnelled into adding to and revamping Sun Citys facilities and image. These upgrades were revealed at a grand celeb-filled event last week. Bizcommunity was lucky enough to get an invite to the Sun Central launch and I got a taste of the exciting new refurbishments and attractions that the #NewSunCity has to offer.
Valley of the Waves
Here my top picks to entice you to pay a visit to the revamped Sun City:
Dine and shop at the new entertainment arena
The Sun Central entertainment and conference hub has been thoroughly revamped. Boasting lush jungle themed decor, this centre now houses a bowling alley, a food court offering popular fare from Spur and Steers, and stores such as Haviannas and Billabong, as well as fancier dining options such as restaurant Splice.

Another addition is the Hall of Fame, an interactive exhibit that honours South Africa's outstanding sportspeople and performing artists. Here you can try your hand at virtual reality games, attempt to race against world record holder Wayde van Niekerk or Springbok Sevens star Seabelo Senatla on an indoor 20-metre track, or work on your handicap on the golf simulator.
