Joburg to show off its Pride
Johannesburg Pride will start at Melrose Boulevard, Melrose Arch at 2pm on 28 October 2017.
The Johannesburg Pride parade kicks off at 2.30pm and runs along Melrose Boulevard into Corlett Drive, proceeding to Athol Oakland’s, down to the Melrose Blvd and back into the venue. Marshals will assist with the formation of the parade and keep the attendees contained to the lanes assigned.
The organisers are contracting companies to erect a stage with a small run away for the fashion show, a public address sound system, and marquees to be used as a change room. Nolene du Preez of NDP Create will coordinate the fashion show, which will be accompanied by drag acts like Justine de Queer.
Commercial products, food, and beverages will be sold to participants in the Pride Village. Community organisations and interest groups will be allowed to set up tables and stalls to advertise their activities and sell items.
DJ KG, Karma and Biskit, Oluweethu, Skye, Darker than white, DJ Shakti, and Johannesburg Pride overall entertainment ambassador Tamara Dey will perform at the event.
The Parade will lead into the Johannesburg Pride after party, which will be hosted by Babylon the Joburg Bar.
General entrance is free.
