Possible new events for Rio 2016

The International Olympic Committee is currently assessing extra events, teams and athletes for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. A decision on which events to add will be made on 9 August 2012 by the IOC executive board.

Possible new events for Rio 2016

According to Sport24, events bidding to join the programme include 3-on-3 basketball and BMX freestyle. Currently, the Rio Games programme is scheduled to award 306 gold medals across 28 sports with a maximum of 10 700 athletes.
