ASA fires 'grossly dishonest' CEO Vermaak

"ASA has terminated the employment of its chief executive officer, Frik Vermaak, following the recommendations after a disciplinary hearing," a statement from ASA said. "After hearing evidence for two days, Vermaak was found guilty on the charges of gross misconduct, gross dishonesty and poor work performance."

Vermaak was hired in December last year to provide impetus to ASA's administration, which had been without an operational head since 2009. But the federation suspended Vermaak in August after it emerged that he was facing separate charges for his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of R1.5-billion while he was CEO of Allegro Holdings and a director of Allegro Group.

ASA president James Evans has previously said Vermaak failed to disclose the extent of his involvement in Allegro, SportLIVE reports.
