Over 250 people attended, including headmasters of the schools whose riders had won floating trophies for gaining the most points during the year.
Sanesa Nationals is in its ninth year and has grown to over 3000 participating classes, involving competitors from all over South Africa. A non-profit organisation, Sanesa ploughed all the money raised back into developing schools' equestrian activities, as well as helping riders to compete - irrespective of their financial status.
The Core League Nationals starts on Sunday with a provincial spectacular parade in the Bob Charter Arena at Johannesburg's Kyalami Equestrian Park, involving riders and horses dressed in all their finery as they represent their schools, The Witness reports.
