The Discovery Sport Industry Summit returns
The Future of Sports Marketing in Africa is the central theme for this year's Discovery Sport Industry Summit, which takes place on 17 November 2015 at the Vodacom Dome, and the Commonwealth Games will be a major talking point.
Considered by many as a stepping-stone to hosting the Olympic Games, and following the first African Soccer World Cup in 2010, the Durban 2022 Commonwealth Games would be the first time these Games come to Africa; and Grevemberg is sure to get people talking.
In his role as CEO, Grevemberg is responsible for overseeing the running of the organising committee to ensure that all aspects of Games planning are being delivered, on time and on budget, across all functional areas. Among his responsibilities are the sports programmes, monitoring the development of new and improved infrastructure, managing the staff of the organising committee (which will rise to around 1,000 people by Games time) and the 15,000 volunteers required during the Games.
As Chief Executive he also has a significant role in the organising committee's external relations with the media, political liaison, and commercial negotiations around sponsorship and broadcasting.
Grevemburg is just the first international name to be announced for the must-attend event, which will be hosted by presenter extraordinaire Dan Nicholl and will feature some of the biggest names in the South African sporting industry.
The Discovery Sport Industry Summit is the premier gathering for sports business individuals, with over 300 of the industry's most influential people in the room. Now in its fourth year, the 2015 Summit is set to be one of the biggest yet, with numerous high profile speakers from across the globe taking to the stage to address the industry on the future of sports marketing in Africa.
Africa is becoming an increasingly prominent player in the sporting world, with some of the world's best sportsmen hailing from the continent. The sport industry on the continent is growing in a similar fashion, with increasingly large deals being signed, sponsorship agreements being made and world-class facilities being built.
Understanding and getting the most from this emerging market is the newest challenge to face the industry, and one that needs greater insight for success. The Discovery Sport Industry Summit will take this challenge on, and provide attendees with the knowledge to support the world's sleeping sports giant.
