Camping out in Nelson Mandela Square

Nelson Mandela Square will be the venue for Africa's biggest freeform, Bedouin-style tent on Monday 26 September. Owned and erected by events company Loudfire, the tent has an unstretched capacity of 675m2 and 900m2 when stretched.

Loudfire CEO Bruce van Halderen says: "Africa's biggest freeform tent is quite an awesome sight to behold and if you're in the vicinity of Nelson Mandela Square, it will be well worth a detour to take a look at it. The tent was custom-designed and manufactured to fit the Square by our tent manufacturing division.

"It is rather difficult to imagine how big 900m2 of tented space is, so to get an idea of the capacity offered by this tent, picture a venue that can accommodate 450 people for a sit-down dinner or 900 people for a cocktail party."

Van Halderen says the tent will be fully erected by 9am and will remain there until the following morning.
