Amongst the offerings are Oware, considered the oldest board game in the world, dating back 7000 years. This version of the game serves as an interactive forum for the community to explore the issue of female empowerment. Members of the public will be able to play the game. There is also the South Africa Climate Change Response Expo, within walking distance of the ICC.
The Solar Cinema facility at Bay Lawns, powered by sun and wind, will showcase environmental movies and documentaries. UNESCO has created an outdoor art exhibition at the Fountain Court, Durban beachfront, in close partnership with its space partners. The main goal is to raise awareness of how climate change is affecting World Heritage sites and how earth observation can be used to monitor and assess these changes. Media worldwide have critically acclaimed the exhibition.
Visitors will not be able to drive in the city centre or the area around the ICC precinct during the vent but are encouraged to make use of bikes, using the specially created bike routes or COP17 shuttle busses.
