SAACI board member elected to international body

Nina Freysen-Pretorius, vice chair of the Southern African Association for the Conference Industry (SAACI), was recently elected to the board of the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA). SAACI national chairman Thomas Overbeck says the election is indicative not only of her professionalism as an individual, but also of the high esteem in which the South African conference industry is held internationally.

“I congratulate her on behalf of our board and all our members, and wish her success in this position,” says Overbeck.

ICCA board members were elected at the association's annual congress and exhibition in Canada last week and will hold their positions for two years. Freysen-Pretorius - the owner of Durban- and Cape Town-based The Conference Company and also the chairperson of the Africa/Middle East chapter of ICCA - competed against two nominations from the Middle East.

She says her election to the ICCA board is truly an honour. “I hope to try in some small way to contribute to our continent becoming more visible in the international associations market.”

To qualify for an ICCA board nomination, the individual needs to be a paid-up member of the association and have attended three AGMs.

ICCA, based in The Netherlands, represents the main specialists in handling, transporting and accommodating international events and comprises more than 850 members in over 80 countries worldwide.
