New online store sparked by student owner's needs

Cablekiosk.co.za, a new online store which launched this week, was conceived when Rhodes University student, Andrew Lynch was looking for a replacement iPod charging cable. "I looked online and in stores and received such poor service and ridiculous prices - I felt like I was being ripped off." He searched abroad for alternatives. "I convinced a company in China to manufacture a small batch of cables and ship them to me, for a lower price than a single cable in South Africa! I kept one cable and put the rest on BidorBuy.co.za. Within two weeks I had sold all my stock."

As BidorBuy.co.za sales increased, Lynch looked for opportunities to expand. Partnering with Mike Winn, a friend from Rhodes, now working at Google, they drew up plans for a full service online store. Although studying his MA in Politics, Lynch set about doing the web development himself, building the site from his digs at Rhodes.

According to Winn, "We really wanted to deliver the best customer experience we could, which is why we have Live Chat support and are always happy to provide technical advice, whether people are customers or not."

They have their sights set on expanding as quickly as possible, Lynch says, "With Kerry Chemaly taking charge of marketing, we now have a team of three and our product range has extended from iPod and HDMI cables, to adaptors, chargers and most recently cable management and there's more coming."

Cablekiosk.co.za sells a wide range of cables and accessories online at unbeatable prices, with expert advice and customer service.
