NetFlorist Valentine's Day orders up 40%
NetFlorist, SA's largest floral and gifting supplier, on Thursday said Valentine's Day orders were up 40% this year.
The company said over 10 000 Valentine's deliveries were made.
"In the 13 years we've been in business, we've never seen anything like it for on any single occasion," said Ryan Bacher, managing director of NetFlorist.
Bacher attributed the increase in part to a new marketing initiative to advertise offline via printed catalogues, and also to the company's continued brand growth in the consumer market.
The recent addition of sister sites NetGifts and NetJewels to the group's online stable has also meant an increased range of gifting possibilities for the consumer, it said.
Over 1000 items are now included in the array of online gifts and this year about 60 of these were specifically Valentine's Day-themed gifts.
NetFlorist's five new retail flower markets in Cape Town and Johannesburg also enjoyed booming sales over the occasion.
Last year NetFlorist said it planned to become a household name among more than just online shoppers, with the opening of 20 "bricks and mortar" flower markets in major shopping malls over the next few years.
With an already 30% year-on-year growth and annual sales of over 50 million rand, the company projected that that real-time flower markets would increase its turnover by R100 million and greatly increase the company's customer base, which stands at more than 100 000 shoppers.
