MPASA again offering media courses

The Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa is again running its media courses, the organisation said on Tuesday, 9 June 2009. The courses are designed to increase the skill levels of magazine writers and designers.

With a range of courses including various writing skills, editing, and layout and design to name a few, only the top trainers in the industry will be used by MPASA to update and up skill journalists, subs and editorial staff.

For the first time also MPASA will be offering these courses to government and corporate sectors, both of which have expressed a need for training and/or skills improvement.

Special skills to work in magazines

“Given the close relationship between magazines and their readers and the opportunities this offers advertisers, it requires a very special skills set to work in magazines,” says MPASA Chairman, John Relihan.

“In a rapidly changing and ever-evolving media environment, it is vital that writers and designers alike are offered the opportunity to both further hone these skills and learn new ones. MPASA is proud to offer both its own members and media staff in other industries this opportunity for continued education.”

Workshopping

A key component of each course will be the workshopping element, where delegates' own work will be reviewed and individual help given to each person, so they leave the course with the latest techniques and savvy needed to enhance and improve their skills. Because of this individual attention numbers for each course will be limited.
