Men's Health's manly wins

In the recent Media24 Excellence Awards, Men's Health magazine claimed prizes for Best Speciality Editor and magazine Innovation. In its second year, the Media24 Excellence Awards aim to recognise and award journalism excellence within the group.

"Media24 is the leader in magazine publishing in South Africa, and we are very excited to have won both the Best Speciality Editor and Innovation categories," commented Andrew Sneddon, publisher of Men's Health magazine.

Justine Drake, food editor for Men's Health took the entry title of "Master Chef" in the Best Speciality Editor category for the November 2003 issue of Men's Health. Drake has been the Food Editor of Men's Health since launch in 1997 and has contributed over 75 food features put together specifically for guys: quick, easy and nutritious meals. The nominated feature, "Master Chef" was inspired by the fact that the kitchen is the new garage!

Men's Health also won the Innovation category for the January 2004 "Comeback Issue". Editor Jason Brown comments; "The Comeback Issue cover was a bold creative step for a magazine with a set cover formula. While all the elements remain true to the Men's Health cover philosophy of an impactful image and an inspirational coverline, this cover clearly breaks with the convention of the previous 74 issues."

He went on to explain that "few magazines would risk a single coverline execution with a headless model, but we believed that our readers would not only relate to it, but see it as a refreshing interpretation of our cover formula".
