Launch of Women's Car of the Year Awards
“The huge advertising support WOW received this year shows that the motoring industry is taking female car buyers seriously,” says Julia Raphaely, MD of Associated Magazines. “It therefore makes sense to evolve the WOW brand and establish an award such as Women's Car of the Year, which will allow women to voice their opinions of the cars they think are the best in their class.”
A panel of top female motoring journalists will vote for the winning cars in seven different categories. The cars are all profiled in the WOW 2007 supplement, which is again sponsored by Nedbank Vehicle and Asset Finance. WOW readers will also have an opportunity to vote online for their favourite cars. The total reader vote will carry the same weight as one judge.
“Nedbank has a long history of supporting women and women in business through its various initiatives including the Business Women's Association,” says Michelle Sarjoo, senior marketing manager, Nedbank Retail.
The categories in the Women's Car of the Year Awards mirror the motoring sections in the Women on Wheels supplement. Judging criteria in each category (excluding the Nedbank Best Value for Money Car of the Year) include safety, versatility, reliability, stylishness, performance, woman-friendliness and boot space.
For more information about the Women's Car of the Year Awards and to participate in the reader vote, see the 2007 issue of Women on Wheels, which is on sale now with the July issues of Cosmopolitan, House and Leisure, O, The Oprah Magazine and Marie Claire.
