Engen Volkswagen Cup set for PE
All eyes will be on the championship leader, Kosie Weyers (5 - Engen Primax) as he moves from his home circuit in the Western Cape where he claimed a double victory, to his team's home circuit, Scribante. This will put him up against two other PE drivers, Simon Moss (38 - Watermax / Tsogo Sun) and Daniel Rowe (33 - Ferodo Racing).
Round three of the national Super Series could, however, be more about the Masters than the younger racers in this Engen Primax-fuelled field. Eddie Rodrigues (M7 - SEW Eurodrive) has put in two good performances this year to find himself in the top 10 overall going to the PE event.
This puts Rodrigues at the end of the list of the hardest-charging young racers in the pack - and within eight points of sixth place overall. This is a tempting situation for any racing driver and a good qualifying position on the narrow Aldo Scribante circuit will put him in a good position to grab many valuable points.
Not an easy task when the list of drivers ahead of him include championship leader Weyers, Mathew Hodges (12 - ITR Africa / 959 Panelbeaters), Jeffrey Kruger (7 - IndyOil), Trevor Bland (15 - PG Glass / Suburban Panelbeaters), Dewald Brummer (22 - MAD Racing), Mark Silverwood (32 - OKI Printing Solutions), Robyn Kruger (11 - IndyOil), Tasmin Pepper (31 - PG Glass / Plastomark) and Jano van der Westhuizen (16 - Kwikfix).
Van der Westhuizen started the season strong, his first outing ever at Kyalami, coming back even stronger at his home circuit in Cape Town. The ladies, Kruger and Pepper, are not standing back for the boys this year and have not been shy about making their presence known on the race track.
Silverwood is also producing good results and is hampered only by a DNF (did not finish) recorded in race one at Killarney. A good result in PE could have him breathing down Brummer's neck, challenging for fifth place overall.
Return of Jesse Adams
The PE round will also see the return of Jesse Adams (M3 - VW Motorsport / Star Motoring) as the guest racer in Engen Volkswagen Cup. Adams contested round one in Johannesburg with his Star Motoring colleague Denis Droppa taking over driving duties in Cape Town. Adams will return to the action and drama at the challenging Scribante event.
There will be two races of Engen Volkswagen Cup action at round three of the national championship when the Super Series rolls into town. Race fans can expect to be treated to an overload of action as these racers rely on every ounce of talent they have while they fight to get to the head of the field.
