Reach For A Dream made a dream come true
Abraham's dream to become a chef is all the more poignant because he is bravely battling a life-threatening illness.
The Reach For A Dream Foundation makes dreams come true for children like Abraham and decided to step in and make his dream a reality.
Abraham was picked up from school and was excitedly whisked off to a secret location. On arrival at Arugula Bistro in Welgemoed, Abraham went completely silent with big curious eyes as he had never been to a restaurant like that before. The chefs at Arugula Bistro took him around the kitchen showing him all the different stations, all the while still in silent awe of what he was about to experience.
Special low counter
The chefs had prepared a low counter just for Abraham, so that he could prepare his first ever and favourite meal: burger and chips. The head chef, Neil, took Abraham through the culinary steps of making a gourmet burger, from preparing the meat and cooking it to melting the cheese with a culinary blow torch and garnishing.
"This was the first time Abraham had ever cooked a meal and he was overjoyed throughout the day," said Heidi Rowley, Cape Town branch manager of the Reach For A Dream Foundation. "Abraham's mother was just as touched by the experience and had tears in her eyes as she watched her son's dream come true."
For 25 years the Reach For A Dream Foundation, has brought hope, joy and healing to South African children, making over 1300 dreams come true a year. "We seek to alleviate the strain that a life-threatening illness takes on these children and their families by providing the children with the opportunity to realise their dream for a day," said Rowley.
