National Cape Antique Fair comes to Cape Town

The event is being presented by a group of antique dealers, under the auspices of the National Antiques & Decorative Arts Association (NAADA), who run successful antique fairs at Nelson Mandela Square and Hyde Park Corner in Johannesburg and Brooklyn Square in Pretoria and who stage the biggest annual antique fair in the country.

South Africa has a long tradition of antiquing based on its rich African, Dutch, French, German & British heritage and with the popularity of antique TV road shows, whether on century-old antiques or the more modern collectables, interest in collecting is at an all-time high.

Antiques, collectables and decorative arts will be on show at The Great Cellar at Alphen Estate, the home of Stephan Welz Auctioneers, who have partnered with the Fair to hold daily valuations. Art will also be showcased as part of the decor settings – with both contemporary and SA art masters for sale.

"It’s the place to find that statement piece that will be the talking point of your home, perhaps an impressive armoire for your new home or an antique side-board to fill that space in your lounge. Add to your collection of silver, find a favourite porcelain figurine or a traditional tea set, pick up a unique piece of jewellery or simply find something special that catches your eye," state the event organisers.

"New and younger collectors will love trying on vintage clothing, find funky costume jewellery or see the latest in the steampunk trend that marries Victorian with Game of Thrones punk. More modern collectables such as Art Deco pieces, 20th Century furniture, 70’s retro and 60’s advertising billboards are the antiques of tomorrow and very sought after with new-age collectors."
