Nederburg announced South African Wine Producer of the Year
At the 2016 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) Nederburg was announced as the South African Wine Producer of the Year at a gala in London, late last week. This is the second time it has achieved this prestigious award, the first time was in 2012.

The title follows Nederburg’s 2016 IWSC trophy for the best Cabernet Sauvignon of the show, won by Nederburg Private Bin R163 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. The wine, as best in its class, also won a gold outstanding medal, the equivalent of a double gold.
Nederburg’s 2016 IWSC gold medals were for Nederburg Private Bin Eminence 2012 and 2007, as well as Nederburg Edelkeur 2009 and 2005.
Earlier this month, Nederburg won the 2017 Platter’s By Diners Club South African Wine Guide’s Winery of the Year title, with four of its wines across the multi-tiered range earning five-star ratings, more than any other producer on the show did. This was the second time that Nederburg achieved this title the guide calls its “ultimate accolade.” The first time was the 2011 edition.
The Paarl winery also performed spectacularly at the 2016 Veritas Awards in early October, emerging as one of the top achievers, as well as at the 2016 Six Nations Wine Challenge.
Cellar-master Andrea Freeborough said all the recent acknowledgements, at home and abroad, were a magnificent way to conclude 2016. “It has been a thrilling and intense year and we are delighted that our winery and so many of our wines have been acknowledged across the multi-tiered range. We are truly grateful for the recognition and hope to continue making South Africa proud.”
