Limited edition Mandela Bangle on sale

Four hundred special edition Mandela Day bangles will go on sale next week to celebrate Nelson Mandela's 91st birthday.

Founder of the 46664 Bangle Initiative Robert Coutt said the limited edition bangle, to go on sale on 18 July 2009, will cost R1995.

This is the same price as the silver 46666 bangles made last year to commemorate Mandela's 90th birthday.

A gala dinner scheduled for 15 July in New York is expected to take place, and invited guests include celebrities and politicians.

"Six hundred bangles will be made only for that special occasion. This to celebrate another year in the life of the world's most famous living icon," Coutt said.

Each bangle will be engraved with a unique serial number as well as the words "Mandela Day edition '09".

Proceeds of the sale of each bangle will go to projects that fight against HIV and Aids in sub-Saharan Africa.

Coutt called on the world to use Mandela Day as a reason to give back, while at the same time offering loved ones an extraordinary gift.

At last year's 46664 concert, a platinum 46664 bangle encrusted with 236 diamonds, was auctioned off to a mystery businessman for R5.6 million.
