New head for Wits Business School
Sibiya holds a B. Admin degree from the University of Zululand and an MBA from the Western Michigan University in America. He is the chair of PPC, deputy chair of conglomerate Tiger Brands and the chair of Brait South Africa. Amongst his many directorships, he is the director of Famous Brands Limited. Sibiya was also the founding CEO of Business Unity South Africa and one of his greatest accomplishments remains being appointed as a past president of Black Managers Forum. He has also held senior management positions at SA Breweries, Tongaat Hullett and Transnet, amongst others.
As dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management, Professor Mthuli Ncube is pleased with the appointment of Professor Sibiya as he brings very strong and desirable corporate experience. “The corporate sector is largely the clientele of a business school and he will build the necessary bridges and connections with the corporate sector both locally and internationally. Internationally the top business schools tend to be led by individuals from a strong corporate background and WBS is following that international trend.”
Says Sibiya, “This appointment is a result of hard work, but more especially of my desire to coach individuals - with an ultimate goal of making businesses thrive in South Africa. I believe firmly in entrepreneurship and the fruits thereof. However, it is an industry which must be guided and I hope that in my capacity as director, I will provide such guidance to all at WBS. I am honoured to be associated with an institution of this stature.”
