On Saturday hundreds of emerging farmers will showcase their products to the public, thus offering them an opportunity to advertise, market and promote their product to potential clients.
The event, held at the Durban Exhibition Centre, will be co-hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs and the eThekwini Metro and Agribusiness.
According to a statement by Agribusiness, the event also aims to give emerging farmers a unique opportunity to interact and network with other farmers who are supplying bigger markets.
Farmers will also have the chance to win themselves prizes worth up to R10,000. The most outstanding stand in the market with fresh produce will also be rewarded.
Akhona Ngcobo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Agribusiness Forum said emerging farmers would benefit by attending this Market Day, because they would be taught how to manage their own farms successfully in order to make a profit.
He said they will also be given information on how to supply their product to the big markets.
"Our aim is to see emerging farmers growing their businesses and getting contacts to work with big respected businesses in the country.
"I urge emerging farmers to come with different product. They need to have different produce, so that they can attract more businesses, customers and visitors," said Ngcobo.
These products include livestock, vegetables and fruits.
The MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs Mtholephi Mthimkhulu pointed out that the provincial government has committed itself to finding means of community development by using agriculture.
