Beware banking scams via email

Conmen are targeting Internet banking customers with emails requesting updates on personal information.

Be warned - The 'phishing' emails appear harmless and official at first glance.

The email asks people to click on the link provided to update your details, claiming that you may be prevented from accessing your account if you do not comply.

The same email also requests you to enable JavaScript and CSS (both which sound very technical for the average Internet browser) for your own security PLUS the email further advises that there is a chance that someone else is signing into your profile.

Scammers advise that all you need to do to save yourself from this fraudulent activity is to click on a link that takes you to an obscure website called www.tuijls.co.kr or www.unitehumanity.net.

Once you have completed this action - they then thank you for helping you to protect your account - DON'T DO IT!

This email is one of many that are circulating around email inboxes countrywide.

Other examples of fraudulent emails offer you:

- added security for your online banking experience,
- an upgrade on your online account; they warn also that should you not perform this action then there is a chance that you account will no longer be active.

BEWARE...! Cunning thieves who are technologically savy are just an email away from trying it on with the rest of us.

If you are in doubt about any correspondence received from your financial institution - contact them by telephone - Phone them through verified phone numbers on their websites and not a number supplied in suspicious correspondence.
