Ticket fraudsters will be punished

Local Organising Committee Chairperson, Irvin Khoza, has warned those who have been duplicating FIFA Confederations Cup tickets, that they will face the might of the law.

Speaking to BuaNews on Tuesday, 23 June 2009, in Johannesburg, Dr Khoza said the LOC had identified that there were culprits who had been duplicating tickets and selling them at cheaper prices. However, more stringent measures would be put in place during the remaining matches to catch the culprits.

"Those who buy duplicated tickets will be disappointed because our security system will be able to recognise if tickets are original or a duplicate.

"It is disturbing; but our systems will unquestionably eliminate those culprits. We warn them to stop what they are doing because it is illegal and offenders will face serious consequences," said Dr Khoza.

He said police had been informed about the matter and if anyone had any information they should contact their nearest police station so that the culprits will face the full might of the law.

Dr Khoza told BuaNews that security plans and checking points were all set for the two semi-final matches and the final match, both of which are expected to draw thousands of soccer enthusiasts.

"These are serious matches. We expect a number of fans and therefore security is a priority. I can assure you that everything is ready and security is intact and we are ready for the matches," he said.

In terms of the park-and-ride facilities, which have been confusing to most fans, Dr Khoza said they had restructured the method by posting posters in a bid to inform the public about the park-and-ride system.

He added that fans must come early to the matches to avoid confusion and also read the park-and-ride guidelines carefully.

"It is new in South Africa and of course it will create confusion but we hope that by next year during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, fans will be familiar with the system," he said.

Dr Khoza added that more suites will be opened during the final match to be played on Sunday in Ellis Park, Johannesburg, to accommodate the number of expected guests.
