Global recognition for recycled garbage bags
This certification means that the company's claims of having 100% recycled content in their products has been verified and accredited by one of the largest certification bodies worldwide.
In its certification notification, SGS stated that to conserve our natural environment, the recycling process is not just simply a matter of materials usage but also refers to the effectiveness of balancing the waste and natural resources for future generations.
It also stated that Tuffy is an innovator in the area of innovative approaches and that the accreditation would promote its leading role in sustainability within the industry and benefit with better engagement with buyers and retailers.
"This accreditation legitimises that we mean it when we say our products contain 100% recycled content from start to finish," says Rory Murray, marketing director at Tuffy Brands. "Its task was essentially to independently verify that we are a tested 'green' alternative and provide us with the official accreditation that our products are made from 100% recycled content."
He adds that it is exciting to be considered as the first in South Africa to receive this accolade. "Basically it tells us that we are doing the right thing all the way, from our raw material supply line to our manufacturing processes. More importantly, we expect the accreditation to be used to set an industry standard."
The official verification followed a stringent four-week accreditation process involving five day audits of all its suppliers. The accreditation was achieved through a detailed review of the recycling process for the range of plastic refuse bags through the various stages, from plastic scrap recycling of their suppliers to final production.
