800th Krispy Kreme store officially opens in SA
Glitz, glamour and green carpet selfies by media and celebs saw the VIP opening party trending in South Africa. Hundreds of posts about the brand were made reaching over 600,000 accounts and generating over 1.7-million impressions. This is the 800th global shop for Krispy Kreme and the first to be opened on the African continent.
"We are very proud that we were able to introduce such an internationally recognised brand into the South African market and, from what we have seen today, the products have been very well received," said Gerry Thomas, CEO of Krispy Kreme South Africa. "This bodes well for the 30 other stores we plan to open over the coming five years."
The event was attended by members of the local and national media, top bloggers, industry players and an array of local celebrities including singer actress Boity Thulo, and DJs Switch and Dino Bravo. The event hailed another success for franchise management group Fournews.
Locally roasted coffees
Apart from the 16 different doughnut flavours on offer, the store has sourced a selection of locally roasted coffees, which will make up its gourmet coffee offering.
The store is equipped with a cinema-style viewing design that allows customers to watch as the Krispy Kreme bakers work their magic with the Krispy Kreme doughnut-making machine, which proved a point of interest for some of the sweet-toothed celebrity guests.
The official opening to the public will take place on Wednesday, 25 November with an overnight camp-out planned from the 24th when eager doughnut lovers can line up to be the first paying customers to taste one of these legendary confections.
