New film and video federation to be formed

South Africa's film and video industry will be creating a federation of all its professional associations.

More than 30 professional associations at a meeting hosted by the National Film and Video Foundation elected a task team to carry the process forward. The federation will represent the entire sector to government, the public at large and the global industry. Unlike many other industry bodies that represent only employers; the sector has opted to include all associations representing employers, employees, content providers, distributors and craft societies.

The task team, under the chair of Sello Molefe and including Glenn Masokoane, Vanessa Jansen, Vanessa La Trobe, Uwe Beckmann, Kagiso Senkge and Howard Thomas, has been mandated to follow a consultative process to result in the inauguration of this body before October this year. The team will issue the first draft of the business plan and constitution by 1 July 2002.

The task Team's chair Sello Molefe comments: "We have developed the tightest deadlines that ensure a fully transparent and consultative process. We are looking forward to a new era where common ground can be established around a table, and where entertainment in South Africa can develop that identity it needs to make a global impact."
