SA estate is tops down under

Nederburg's winning streak continued with cellar master Razvan Macici and his team when the estate took South Africa's only gold medal on the 2008 International Sweet Wine Challenge in Australia.

The new Australian gold medal, one of only 10 awarded worldwide, went to the 2007 vintage of Nederburg's Noble Late Harvest, which also earned a Michelangelo Grand d‘Or, demonstrating a consistent ability to perform, irrespective of the platform, according to global marketing manager, Rudolph du Toit.

“The estate's achievement on the sweet wine competition, based in the Riverina region, which is the home of Australia's noble late harvest wines, represents a major coup. To our knowledge, this is the first time a local wine has earned gold on this event. Ours was the only non-Australian gold medallist and was ranked alongside some of the leading names in noble late harvest wines, including Lillypilly Estate and De Bortoli Wines.”

Made from 15-year-old, low-yielding Durbanville dryland vines, this Sauvignon Blanc debuts on the 2008 Nederburg Auction, selected by the panelists for its complex, rich and tropical flavours of gooseberry, melon and granadilla fruit.
