Germany's best rosé – and it's South African
Weinwirtschaft, the respected German trade magazine, has just published its annual Top 500 ‘Wines of The Year' – as voted by the German wine trade – and Delheim Pinotage Rosé 2007 came top in the rosé category, beating all other rosé wines sold in Germany during 2007.
It narrowly missed inclusion in the overall Top 100 wines. According to Weinwirtschaft this proves that German wine drinkers are opting for full colour and fruit-intensive rosé wines to enjoy.
The magazine ranks its Top 500 ‘Wines of The Year' sales, image, clarity of product profile and good quality in relation to price enjoyment so the estate's wine was up against very stiff competition. However, Delheim Pinotage Rosé has been winning international acclaim and is renowned as the quintessential South African rosé for the past 30 years or so, so the latest award is one in a long line of successes.
It sells for R35 a bottle direct from the farm and is available at most leading off-trade outlets.
