New casino means new jobs - you can bet on it

While South Africa's official unemployment rate remained virtually unchanged at 25.5%, the Mogale City community is set to experience a rise in employment with the opening of Silverstar Casino later this year.

Just a 20-minute drive from Sandton, the casino has created almost 1000 new jobs during the construction phase and this number will increase as the number of sub-contractors increase over the following months due to the fit-out phase.

Mike Vermaak, the casino's GM said the casino wants to boost the local economy but also “make sure that this growth is accompanied by sustainable job creation for members of the community."

The casino will create more than 700 full-time positions of which over 90% are employment equity appointments. A further 200 outsourced jobs will be created via a number of contracts such as cleaning, laundry, security and garden maintenance.

The recruitment and training process is already well under way in anticipation of the casino's December opening, with 204 jobs already filled.

Silverstar Casino supports Responsible Gaming. For more information about the National Responsible Gambling Program visit http://www.responsiblegambling.co.za or phone their toll free hotline, 0800 006 008.
